Why Journalists Must Embrace Artificial Intelligence “Egbaliganza Propounder” Lai Labode Reveals

The key founder of a trending fashion phenomenon, “Egbaliganza”, and an expert in IT, High Chief Lai Labode, has urged Journalists to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence, declaring that it is not meant to replace humans but to improve human effort.
Labode highlighted the importance of the human factor in AI for adequate and accurate information processing, saying that Artificial intelligence can only work on human-provided information
He stated this on Saturday during a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat, to commemorate the 2025 Press Week of the Ogun state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
He maintained that AI will not take the job of Journalists; but a person who understands AI will take up their jobs, therefore, Journalists should fully embrace AI.
Labode, whose foundation was part of the sponsor of the 2025 Press Week, also pointed out the need for Journalists to start thinking out of the box, to enable improved practice and innovation in their profession.
He cited BBC Yoruba and Hausa as a vivid example of what thinking outside the box is all about.
Speaking further, Labode disclosed that the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation is not just for the preservation of things that we consider history and heritage, but also innovation.
He said” Asking ourselves, what can we add to it, and how do we project into the future? Egbaliganza was just one of those expressions we thought it was important for us to showcase the very best of Africa in a way that economics also connects to our people”
It’s not just about doing things that look very nice. How do we connect with the local economy? And so I want to say to the world today that Egbaland, Ogun state and Nigeria, we are leading an African fashion Renaissance,” he said.
Earlier in his address, Chairman of Ogun NUJ Comrade Wale Olanrewaju explained how he had been able to transform the union from the way it was before he assumed office.
He also expressed his readiness to do more, while also revealing his intention to immortalise former chairman of the union, High Chief Layi Labode, who is the biological father of Balogun Lai Labode, stating his immense contribution to the betterment of the Union.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the 2025 Press Week planning committee, Comrade Emmanuel Oke, revealed the plan for the Week, which includes outreach, press walk, journaling, chapel, variety name and Ale Asa.
