UN, Aviary Group Urges For Collective Action on International Day of Peace

The Aviary Association Worldwide’s Global President, Comrade Seyi Olusa, has issued a poignant call to action on the occasion of the 2025 UN International Day of Peace.

Olusa during a press conference held at Oke ilewo, Abeokuta, to mark the UN International Day of Peace with the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World”,

said conflicts escalating worldwide, emphasising the urgent need for peace, highlighting the devastating impact of war on human lives, dignity, and development.

In his speech, Olusa noted that the ripple effects of war are felt globally, and that sustainable development is crucial to supporting peace.

He pointed out that nine of the 10 countries struggling most with development are suffering from conflict, underscoring the interconnectedness of peace and development.

The Global President condemned the spread of racism, dehumanisation, and misinformation that fuel conflicts, urging instead for a culture of respect, empathy, and understanding.

He emphasised that peace is everyone’s business and that collective action is necessary to silence guns, end suffering, build bridges, and create stability and prosperity.

“Peace cannot wait; therefore, individuals and communities should use their influence to push for peace”.

He highlighted the hope and opportunities that peace brings, including family reunification, community rebuilding, and education.

As the world marks the International Day of Peace, Olusa’s words serve as a powerful reminder of the need for collective action to promote peace, stability, and prosperity for all.

Speaking earlier, the regional President of Aviary Association Worldwide (AAW), Avian Babatunde Elegbede, urged individuals and communities to work towards a more peaceful world.

Elegbede emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in promoting peace, highlighting the organisation’s guiding principles of Brotherhood, Integrity, and Charity.

He noted that peace begins with individuals and communities, and that every person has a role to play in nurturing peace.

The Regional President outlined the significance of the three guiding principles, stating that Brotherhood promotes unity, Integrity upholds truth and justice, and Charity teaches compassion.

He emphasised that these principles are essential in building peace and that AAW’s collaboration with the United Nations is a testament to the organisation’s commitment to promoting peace globally.

Elegbede urged individuals to take personal responsibility for promoting peace, stating that “peace is not passive, it requires courage, sacrifice, and commitment.” He encouraged everyone to sow the seeds of peace in their homes, communities, and nation, and to reflect the true spirit of peace in their actions.

Also, the Gateway President Avian Olusegun Oyebola, in his speech, opined that peace is not just a desirable outcome but an inevitable and necessary part of human existence and progression.

He emphasised that the theme for this year, “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, is a call to action, urging individuals and governments to work towards building peace today, rather than waiting for a more convenient time.

Oyebola highlighted the importance of addressing poverty, inequality, and social injustices, as well as empowering marginalised groups, including women and young people.

He noted that peacebuilding is not just the responsibility of governments but also of citizens, who can contribute through patience, empathy, forgiveness, and building bridges in their daily lives.

Oyebola expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential for progress, citing the country’s resilience and the Renewed Hope Agenda as a path forward. He urged Nigerians to work together to turn resilience into lasting stability and renewed hope into reality.

“The International Day of Peace serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in creating a more peaceful world.

“The International Day of Peace is not about ceremonies or speeches alone. It is a mirror, asking us what role we play in creating peace.”
