Nigerian Youth Congress Join Forces with NDLEA to Tackle Drug Abuse Among Youths

The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Ogun State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse among youths through strategic collaboration with relevant security agencies.
This resolution followed a high-level strategic meeting held with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, in Abeokuta.
The meeting, according to both parties, was convened to address the alarming rate of youth involvement in drug-related activities across the state and to strengthen partnerships for intelligence sharing, community vigilance, and sensitisation.
Speaking during the session, Deputy State Commander KY Simeon emphasised the need for stronger synergy between the NDLEA and youth organisations in tackling the menace.
He urged NYC members to be proactive in intelligence gathering and to promptly report suspicious drug activities within their communities.
“The fight against drug abuse cannot be won by security agencies alone. We need community structures and youth bodies like the NYC to work hand-in-hand with us in intelligence sharing and sensitisation,” Simeon stated.
On her part, the Chairperson of the NYC Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Princess Adesewa Mariam Ibirogba, reiterated the organisation’s unwavering commitment to youth development and the war against drug abuse.
She disclosed that the NYC had commenced statewide sensitisation campaigns targeting schools, religious institutions, and social gatherings to educate young people on the dangers of drug use.
“Hard drugs destroy lives and futures, but empowerment builds them. Our goal is to channel the energy of our youths into technology, entrepreneurship, and productive ventures that will shape a better future,” Ibirogba said.
She also directed all NYC members across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State to strengthen collaboration with law enforcement agencies in sustaining anti-drug efforts at the grassroots level.
In his closing remarks, ASN Harisu Adamu, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Ogun Command, commended the NYC executives for their proactive approach and renewed commitment to building a drug-free society.
He pledged the Command’s continuous support for youth-driven initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse.
