Journalism Excellence Honoured: Kazeem Olowe, Others Shine at Ogun NUJ Awards

A senior reporter of TVC News, Kazeem Olowe, has been honoured as the Broadcast Journalist of the Year by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The organisers say this prestigious award is a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication to quality journalism. His ability to shed light on critical issues has made a significant impact in raising awareness and promoting understanding.

Some of his recent works that have been attracting commendations include: “Ilara, a border community sitting on two countries,” “Plights of people suffering from mental health disorders,” “Sawonjo – a community where stealing is a taboo,” and his visit to the home of Eni-Ogun, popularly known as Kongi, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Kazeem Olowe is a respected journalist who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in his work. His coverage of critical events and in-depth reporting has earned him recognition within the industry.

Other notable journalists honoured at the event include Doyin Lasisi of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC); Yemi Dalemo of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Ayo Oluwunmi of the Ogun State Television (OGTV); Gift Oba of the Daily Post; Femi Osipitan of the Ogun State Ministry of Information; Sanni Ismail of Kaftan TV; and Idris Oderinde of News Life Online.

The event, which was attended by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, and other notable persons in the state, also featured awards and recognitions of personalities who have distinguished themselves in their area of focus and have impacted their communities positively.

The honorees include the Commander of the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun), Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (Rtd); Honourable Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka; Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu; Chief Lai Labode, the promoter of the Egbaliganza; Chief (Mrs.) Florence Mojisola Quadri of Oni Electronics, and the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, while Senator Lekan Mustapha was decorated as the Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.

The event, which was the grand finale of the NUJ Ogun Council Press Week, was tagged “Asale Asa (Journaliganza)” and featured a fashion parade where traditional attires styled by the Egbaliganza were displayed by journalists.

In his speech, the Chairman of the NUJ Ogun State Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, appreciated the support of the State Government and all other eminent personalities in attendance, including the sponsors, for their love, and promised that the council under his watch would continue to grow from strength to strength. He also commended members of the executive council of NUJ in the state and all members of the council for their relentless service and support.

Other notable personalities in attendance include the Olu of Itori, Oba Fatai Akorede Akamo; the Chairman of Neu-Gate Hotels, Honourable Sikirulai Ogundele; the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Information, Mr. Waheed Adeshina; Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Dare Odufowokan; Head of Mass Communications Department, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta (MA POLY), Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso; the General Manager of Radio Nigeria (Paramount FM Abeokuta), Mrs. Oluremi Olugbenro; the Chairman of NUJ Oyo State Council, Comrade Demola Babalola; and the founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji.

While appreciating the guests for gracing the occasion, the Secretary of the Ogun State Council, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, said Ogun NUJ would continue to lay a solid foundation for generations to come, noting that being the cradle of journalism in Nigeria, people should always look up to positive things and innovations from the council.
