Communal Clash: Ebonyi Gov Sacks Government Appointees, Withdraws Monarch Certificates, Others

Abakaliki- The Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has visited Okporojo in Oso Edda in Edda Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, where five persons were killed and beheaded, many people kidnapped and several properties were razed with fire by unidentified armed men, allegedly from Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area Ebonyi State.
Following the ugly incident, Governor Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal from office of all Government appointees from the Amasiri community of Afikpo Local Government Area.
They include Members of the State Executive Council down to Management Committee Members who are from the community.
The Governor also approved the immediate dissolution of the Town Union Executive and Village Heads and withdrawal of the certificate of recognition/ Staff of Office from the traditional ruler.
He directed those affected to immediately hand over government properties in their possession including official Vehicles to the Secretary to the State Government.

Ogun Amotekun Strengthen Security, Kick-starts Recruitment Of Additional 1,000 Personnel

The Ogun State Security Network Agency, (Ogun Amotekun Corps), has announced the commencement of its 2026 recruitment exercise of an additional 1,000 personnel as part of deliberate efforts to reinforce community-based security operations across the State.
The recruitment initiative underscores the State Government’s deliberate strategic security vision gains in crime prevention, rapse operations, and intelligence-driven policing at the grassroots.
The announcement was signed by the Commandant of corps Rtd Br Adepegba in a press statement made available to newsmen on Monday.
The new intake is expected to further deepen the operational capacity of the Corps across the 20 Local Government Areas, particularly in rural communities, border corridors, and other vulnerable flashpoints requiring enhanced surveillance and rapid intervention.
The main focus is on building a disciplined, professional, and community-oriented security outfit that complements other security agencies in maintaining peace and public order.
Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications at no cost via the official website: ogunsateamotekun.com.ng.
The application window will be open from Thursday, February 26, to Friday, March 13, 2026, and applicants are advised to carefully review eligibility requirements, documentation guidelines, and physical standards before submission.
Following the application phase, a thorough screening exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, March 23 to April 8, 2026. Prospective applicants are encouraged to prepare adequately and follow the guidelines that will be provided to ensure a smooth screening process.
The Agency emphasises that the recruitment process is strictly merit-based, transparent, and free. Members of the public are therefore cautioned against falling victim to fraudsters or unauthorised individuals demanding payment in connection with the exercise.

Gov Nwifuru Calls for Action Over Abduction Of Former Deputy Gov’s Father

Abakaliki- The Ebonyi State Immediate past Deputy Governor’s father His Royal Highness Ezeogo Francis Igwe, traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area was abducted by unknown suspected hoodlums on Sunday morning
The incident happened along the Nwakpu axis of Ikwo LGA in the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District as the traditional ruler was said to be on his way to the church.
The Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru expressed deep concern over the reported abduction of a royal father, describing the development as deeply troubling and totally unacceptable, noting that acts of criminality against innocent citizens, especially revered community leaders, will not be tolerated in Ebonyi State.
The Governor, however expressing solidarity with the family of the abducted royal father and the entire people of Ikwo Local Government Area, assured that the Ebonyi State Government has immediately activated all security and intelligence mechanisms to ensure the safe and prompt rescue of the monarch.
According to the Governor, ” all security agencies in the state have been directed to work in synergy to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. ”
He stressed that the government will deploy all available state apparatus and resources to unmask those behind the criminal act and prevent any recurrence.
Governor Nwifuru further called on residents of the state, particularly those in Ikwo and surrounding communities, to remain calm but vigilant, and to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in their ongoing operations.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to the protection of lives and property across the state and reassured the people that Ebonyi State will not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminals.
The Governor also urged the perpetrators to release the abducted traditional ruler unconditionally, emphasising that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone found culpable.
“The Ebonyi State Government remains confident that with the cooperation of the public and the dedication of security agencies, the abducted royal father will be safely reunited with his family.”

Police Arrest 10 in Ondo Over Coordinated Kidnapping Operations

The Ondo State Police Command arrested at least 10 suspects on Tuesday in connection with a series of kidnapping incidents across the state.
The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued in Akure by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the suspects, namely Muritala Muhammed (22), Mustapha Adamu (20), Usman Ibrahim (25), Amisu Aruna (28), Asiru Abdulasis, Abduliu Sanni (22), Ibrahim Suraju (20), Noah Isiaku (20), Abdulahi Suraju (20), and Arabi Hamet (18), were apprehended on Monday following a coordinated operation in the state capital.
Jimoh said the arrests resulted from a joint intelligence-led operation by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Section and visiting Police Mobile Force operatives deployed along Ondo Road.
“The operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects believed to be members of a kidnapping syndicate. An operational motorcycle and suspected ransom money were recovered during the exercise,” the statement said.
He added that part of the recovered cash included burnt currency notes, which were being documented as exhibits, while the suspects have made confessional statements detailing their alleged roles within the syndicate.
The police spokesman noted that investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities and to track down other accomplices who may still be at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reassured residents of the command’s resolve to rid Ondo State of kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Meanwhile, the command had earlier arrested two other suspects in separate kidnapping cases. In a statement issued on Monday, police said the suspects were apprehended at Sabo Sango and Ilado Community in Akure North Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the suspects included operational motorcycles and other gadgets allegedly used in carrying out kidnapping operations, with indications that they are linked to a syndicate operating within the state.
