IPAC Meets Gov. Abiodun Over OGISIEC Administrative Fees

In a remarkable demonstration of political unity, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) of Ogun State, led by its chairman, Comrade Sanyaolu Abayomi, paid a historic visit to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The delegation included chairmen from various political parties across the state, marking an unprecedented moment of collaboration between the state government and the political parties, except the state’s second-largest political force.

Comrade Sanyaolu, in his opening address, expressed profound appreciation for Governor Abiodun’s leadership and commitment to grassroots governance.

“Your Excellency,” he said, “your tenure has been a wonderful hope for the people of Ogun State. How you’ve prioritized the needs of the masses and the visible transformations in all three senatorial districts are unparalleled in the state’s history.”

He further praised Ogun State’s rapid growth in areas such as infrastructure, job creation, technological advancements, and food security. He lauded Governor Abiodun’s efforts, stating that Ogun State has become a benchmark for development among its peers in the federation.

However, Comrade Sanyaolu also used the opportunity to call on the governor to address a key concern regarding the upcoming 2024 Local Government elections.

He appealed to the governor to intervene and urge the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to reconsider the administrative fees being demanded from political parties.

“At a time when the country is facing economic challenges, such fees are a burden, particularly for smaller political parties. This requirement could hinder participation from genuine men and women, leaving the field open only to moneyed interests, which could cage the democratic process,” he argued.

Supporting this stance, Mr. Biola Martins, chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), echoed the concerns.

He referred to Governor Abiodun as a “father to all political parties” and urged him to ensure that the electoral process remains inclusive. “Your Excellency, we rely on your leadership to make sure that democracy in Ogun State remains a level playing field, where merit and integrity can thrive, especially at the local government level.”

In his response, Governor Abiodun thanked the IPAC delegation for their visit, recognizing their role in fostering good governance.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to serving the people of Ogun State and ensuring that development reaches all corners of the state.

The governor also highlighted his government’s achievements, including the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and electric bikes to ease transportation, as well as the proposed establishment of a dry port in Kajola, Itori, which promises to boost the state’s economy and create thousands of jobs.

Addressing the concerns about the local elections, Governor Abiodun assured the political party chairmen that their request regarding the administrative fees would be given careful consideration. He emphasized that his administration remains focused on inclusive governance and ensuring that every political party has a fair opportunity to participate in the state’s democratic processes.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with the IPAC chairmen expressing their gratitude to the governor for his open-door policy and his willingness to engage with them on critical issues.

As Ogun State continues on its rebuilding mission, the collaboration between the government and political parties appears set to foster a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.
