Southern Caucus of National Forum of Former Legislators Backs President Tinubu For Second Term

In a significant development, the Southern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators has issued a communique expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete the tenure of 8 years as the civilian President in the country.

The caucus, which convened in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Saturday, commended the convener, Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, for his initiative in organising the summit.

The caucus adopted President Tinubu as the sole candidate of the South to complete the tenure, stating that his vision for Nigeria has qualified him to earn their support.

They also called on all Nigerians to support the course to promote national unity and strengthen nation-building as stated in the communiqué issued after the summit.

The communiqué read ” COMMUNIQUE OF THE SOUTHERN CAUCUS OF NATIONAL FORUM OF FORMER LEGISLATORS. ISSUED THIS 13TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2025.

The Summit Commends the Convener, Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila for his initiative in convening this Summit”

We commend the innovative reforms of the Government, which include, among others, the establishment of Regional Development Commissions, Local Government Autonomy, Student Loans Scheme and Deregulation of the Electricity Sector, and call for greater collaboration of State Governments and support of Citizens alike to be able to harvest the great potential of these reforms. That as a body, we will always align ourselves to those things that will promote the Unity, peace and prosperity of our dear Country Nigeria”.

“We commend the patriotic courage of our Colleagues of the Northern Caucus in calling for the South to complete their tenure of the Leadership of the Country”

” We affirm that it is time for the South to complete its tenure”.

“We posit that it is in the best interest of the South and Nation that the incumbent, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu completes the tenure of the South. Accordingly, we adopt him as the Sole Candidate of the South”.

“We call on the South to support the North in 2031 to take up their tenure for the Leadership of our dear Country”.

“We call on all Nigerians to pursue this Course to promote National Unity and firm the foundation of nation-building”

While speaking earlier, the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, posited that the national unity and peace of Nigeria is “Sine qua non”, adding that Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria is not a mere politicking, but creating an enabling and conducive nation for the generation to thrive.

He also urged all the stakeholders to embrace unity for the development of the country, rather than playing devil’s politics.

“National unity is the sine qua non for national development. Where there is no peace, there cannot be progress”

“For politicians, what they think the most of is how to win the next election, but for a leader what they think is how to build the next generation, which is who President Bola Tinubu is”. He said.

He also noted that disagreements are part of the human condition. However, national unity, defined as an active commitment to live and work together in peace, ensures that every disagreement doesn’t devolve into an argument and that even when we argue, we don’t do so from a place of fear, anger, resentment and naked appeals to our worst instincts.

“Our differences are not a weakness, unless we choose to turn an asset into a liability. Our diversity can be a unifying force; we can draw strength and inspiration from the scintillating variety of culture, music, art, and traditions that we have here and that are so greatly admired across the world. Unity does not mean we must all think alike, vote alike, or worship in the same way.”

While our vision is clear and our destination certain, it is not lost on us that the journey itself is not an easy one. Fixing the things that have long been broken imposes costs, entails sacrifice and requires time. That is why under the leadership of our president, this administration has pursued a two-pronged approach of reforms on the one hand, and targeted interventions on the other hand to ease the burden of sacrifice on all our citizens”.

Also speaking, the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, humbly welcomes all the forum of ex-legislators to Ogun state, calling on them for unity, and charged Nigerians to join hands with President Tinubu to sustain the Renewed Hope Agenda and build the nation of their dreams.

“I align with the resolutions of the former legislators of the South that the South must finish its eight-year tenure under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Abiodun concluded.

He maintained the South must finish its 8years, adding that Nigeria is rising again.
