We Now Wear New Germent, IBEDC Assures Service Improvements, Earnmark 18billion For Infrastructure Others
Despite over 64 billion debt in Ogun state, the Ibadan Electricity Distributions Company IBEDC has assured customers of improved service, adding that the electricity company now wears a new garment and will not stop infrastructure and network expansion.
The assurance was made on Friday during the last leg of stakeholders’ engagement held at Ibafo, area of Ogun state, by the Lead Media Busolami Tunwase who represented the M.D Kinsley Achife.
Busola argued that despite the huge amount of debt owed to the company in Ogun state, it wouldn’t stop service improvement, appealing to customers to desist from damaging transformers and energy theft.
She also stated that the company wants to do more installation, and infrastructure and provide the necessary needs for customers, but the high debt is weighing on the company, yet the company is stopping.
Busolami disclosed that the IBEDC budgeted 18 billion naira for infrastructure, and network expansion and that is what the company wants to do.
“We want to do more and provide more good services to our customers and that is why we are appealing to our customers to pay up their debt, and we can empower”.
“Despite the debt, this year alone IBEDC has budgeted 18 billion nairas for infrastructure, and network expansion alone, and that is what we do and we continue to do more, we want our customers to stop energy theft, and vandalism of transformers”
On the issue of energy theft, Busolami emphasized that it is now a punishable offense, warning that the offender proven guilty by a court of law will be jailed for 21 years.
She lamented that energy theft has been a major challenge to the growth of the company, hence, the company’s total debt in Ogun is 74 billion nairas and Ibafo alone owes over 5 billion nairas.
“Nigerians still have a belief that electricity is a social service, I want you to change that wrong belef, because electricity is no more a social service since it has been privatized since 2013, IBEDC pays for what we are giving to you, and we are appealing to you also please, pay for what we are giving as electricity is no more a social service”
