Tony Ojeshina Ex-SDP Governorship Candidate Raises Alarm Over LG Funds Crisis
The good people of Ogun State are in a state of shock as a new phenomenon in Local Government administration unfolds with the maximum ruler Dapo Abiodun, causing security agents to invade the secretariat of Ijebu East LG, in a bid to unseat the Chairman Wale Adedayo, in a gestapo style.
The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, in the 2023 elections, Asiwaju (Engr) Tony Ojeshina is appealing to all stakeholders to rise to stem this sad optics unraveling before the good people of Ogun state.
The present crisis was triggered when Adedayo wrote a highly emotive and scathing appeal to the ex-governor of the State and foremost APC leader Aremo Olusegun Osoba. In the letter, the Ijebu East Chairman detailed how the State Government has appropriated billions of naira monthly allocations due to Local
Administrations in the state.
He painted a sad picture of how the third tier of governance has been paralyzed as a result of the greed of the governor of the state.
Chairman Wale Adedayo, a well-known activist and journalist, also petitioned the EFCC to beam its searchlight on the pathetic mismanagement of Local Government allocations to the state, despite the policy of the APC controlled Federal Government, on enhanced fiscal autonomy of Local Governments in the country.
In a turn of events, other local government chairmen in the state proceeded to prostrate before Governor Abiodun and pleaded for forgiveness for their ‘misguided’ colleague. Shamefully, the state government leaked the pictures and videos of the prostrating chairmen to the press.
While people were expecting good counsel and crisis management to prevail, security agents stormed the headquarters of Ijebu East local government in a bid to arrest the erring chairman. Also in a despicable style of politicking the councilors in the local government, mysteriously raised financial allegations against the chairman, suspended him, and kickstarted a process of imminent impeachment.
Rather than being cowed and subdued, Wale Adedayo became more deviant and more daring. He berated his colleagues for daring to go and prostrate to the state governor. “We are in a democracy, we are not in a military dictatorship, What business do police and thugs have with my local government? They can’t kill me unless God says it’s time, let them go and bring the best of the assassins.”
The beleaguered chairman commented on his prostrating colleagues “Let their constituents ask them how much they have got so far. What did they use the money for? Where is the balance? That is what their constituency should be asking them. It is either they want to serve the people who elected them, or they want to serve the governor.”
Adedayo concluded, “We took an oath with our fathers that we will make this land better than we met it”.
As stated earlier the chairman has dispatched a request for intervention to the EFCC on the saga.
Asiwaju (Engr.) Tony Ojeshina hereby calls on all stakeholders in the progress and well-being of Ogun State and its people, to rally around and save the state from the iron fist of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The ex-governorship candidate reiterates that Ogun, a state known for its high political sophistry, should not descend into a banana republic. The President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Elder Statesmen, political leaders across party lines, ex and current political office holders, community leaders, traditional rulers, local government staff and operatives, artisan, student bodies, NGO and the generality of the people of the state should stand up to be counted as Ogun State descends into a state of anomie.
Hon. Tony Ojeshina, a former state commissioner in the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel who is also leading a coalition of 10 political parties in Ogun state supporting Ladi Adebutu to recover his stolen mandate, assures that no matter how much bullying by security agencies and political thuggery, the issue of the rape of local government in Ogun State will not be wished away.
While saluting the exemplary courage of Wale Adedayo, who has exhibited the kind of patriotism that exalts a Nation, the people of Ogun state should expect proper forensic investigation on what has transpired on Ogun state statutory allocation in the last two years.
