Suspension Of Title Chiefs, Rightful Decision To Save Extinction Of Six Villages – Ogun Monarch

The olu of Orile -ilawo in Odeda local government area of Ogun state, oba Alexander MacGregor has dismissed any insinuations that he is at loggerhead with the osile of Egba land, oba Adedapo Tejuoso saying that it is the handiwork of mischief-makers whose stock in trade is selling of lands belonging to Six communities and were hell-bent in destroying the Customs and tradition of the forebears.
Oba MacGregor was speaking against the backdrop of the recent indefinite suspension of his ten chiefs who were sacked for allegedly selling more than 2600 hectares of land belonging to 6 villages, as well as disloyalty and insubordination to the king.
He reaffirmed that he is the sole custodian of the customs, culture, and tradition of the ilawo kingdom and will sit back and allow unscrupulous and mischievous elements to send more than 6 villages with their culture and tradition into extinction with their allegedly criminal tendencies.
He stated that the suspended chiefs were title holders in Ilawo not of another town which empowered him as a traditional ruler to suspend any earring chief according to native law and customs and running under the shield of Oba Tejuoso can not help them.
While going on memory lane, he noted that there is a union of multiple towns called Oke-ona noting that the union is loose one and not a compulsory one, noting that it is an independent native community coming together in 1840 or about to form Oke-ona.
He explained that the composition of oke-ona is not homogeneous and not from the native community but a loose union of big individual kingdoms.
He further stressed that the customary Chiefs are governed by ilawo customs and tradition adding that the chiefs are nothing but from ilawo extractions under the ilawo traditional council of chiefs and the only custodian of customs, culture, and tradition is no other person than the olu of orile-ilawo.
Oba MacGregor added that customary chiefs in ilawo only exist under the custodian of the culture, tradition, and customs of the kingdom, and any time short of that is a non-avoid.
“These people have wiped out more than six villages in Ilawo through unscrupulous acts “.
The professor of biopharmaceutics turned king pointed out that any traditional ruler is at liberty to grant chieftaincy title to any individual that validates his authority in other traditional rulers with separate autonomy domain, adding that from time immemorial, there can only be one king in a town but when the mischief makers involve in an unscrupulous act in their domain and they were been suspended and now claiming allegiance to another traditional ruler different from their immediate domain saying the act calls for total overall of their appraisal and disloyal tendencies.
On the allegation that is had become chief before his ascendance to the throne of the forebears, oba MacGregor further said that “Osile of oke-Ona Egba was once a prescribed authority during the ilawo interregnum period, this is the norms in any traditional settings, for every kingdom that does not have king you must have a prescribed authority who have very limited role to play in your kingdom.
“which is Oba’s chief laws and once a king emerges from the kingdom, the role of a prescribed authority ends there while the new authority takes charge of his domain with full autonomy”.
According to him,” If they disagreed with the way and manner he removed them they should go to court for proper adjudication on the matter”.
“Genesis of obaship came from the tradition, culture, and customs, he stated that the suspension stands and when they are ready to explain the reason their position should be reinstated they need to come back to the ilawo palace for that purpose and not anybody’s palace”.
The traditional ruler further noted that the fundamental tenet of a Chief is loyalty and subordination to a king but in their issue reversed.
He added that they were also allegedly involved in criminal activities of selling two thousand six hundred hectares of land.
“They have wiped out over 6 communities in ilawo through their conduct, majority of atrocities happened before my emergence, they have hurriedly perpetuated the act and continued after my emergence”.
‘I am fighting to prevent the genocide of my native community”. All these atrocities are committed at the villages in Orile la, I cannot sit here as the king and wash a handful of people committing genocide. He said
‘The argument they are making is that they are chief in Ile- ogboni located in Abeokuta north local government where the osile area of authority is domicile but in as much as it is for the people of file law, the ile -ogboni is within the authority of ilawo jurisdiction, the suspension is indefinite and in the meantime , I will ask the other chiefs to in standing to start the process of their replacement.

Osoba Dismisses Godfatherism Claims, Says Relationship with Abiodun Is Built on Mutual Respect

Former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, has described his relationship with Governor Dapo Abiodun as cordial, respectful, and devoid of political interference.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with journalists in Abeokuta, Osoba said the absence of godfatherism in Ogun State politics stems from the mutual understanding and harmony between himself and the governor.
He noted that since the inception of the current administration in 2019, he has deliberately refrained from interfering in governance.
According to the Akinrogun of Egbaland, he has neither pressured the governor nor made recommendations regarding appointments or placements in government.
“I have never suggested anyone to be appointed into any office, nor have I influenced the running of the government in any form,” he stated.
Osoba, a former national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that his relationship with the governor is anchored on mutual respect rather than patronage.
He explained that he accords Abiodun the respect due to his position as the state’s Chief Executive, and that respect is reciprocated.
“I respect him as the Chief Executive Officer and the current father of the state, and he returns that respect to me,” Osoba said, adding that this understanding has contributed significantly to the peace and stability being enjoyed across Ogun State.
He maintained that the harmony between them has translated into effective governance and a calm political atmosphere, dismissing insinuations of godfatherism as unfounded.

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed plans to hold an Extended Stakeholders Strategic Meeting on Wednesday, February 11, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, by 2:00 p.m.
The meeting is expected to convene key party leaders and stakeholders across the state, including former Governors and Deputy Governors, former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, serving and former members of the Federal Executive Council from Ogun State, as well as serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies.
Also expected are members of the State Executive Council and other major stakeholders of the party.
According to a statement from the party, the strategic gathering will be presided over by the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, MFR, as part of efforts to strengthen party unity and chart future political strategies.
The State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urged all invited stakeholders to attend in party attire, stressing that attendance is strictly by invitation.

The Ogun State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has congratulated the good people of Ogun State on the occasion of the state’s anniversary, urging residents to remain united, resilient and committed to the collective progress of the state.
In a statement issued on behalf of IPAC, the Chairman, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, described the celebration as a moment of reflection on Ogun State’s rich history, remarkable achievements and the shared sacrifices of its people across generations.
Comrade Sanyaolu commended Ogun indigenes at home and in the diaspora for their resilience, enterprise and contributions to the socio-economic and political development of the state, noting that Ogun’s reputation as a centre of excellence was built on unity of purpose and hard work.
According to him, the diversity of political opinions and party affiliations in the state should not be a source of division, but rather a strength that deepens democracy and good governance.
“As political parties, we may differ in ideology and approach, but we are united by a common destiny as Ogun people. This celebration should remind us that peace, unity and mutual respect are essential for sustainable development,” the IPAC chairman said.
He called on political leaders, party members and citizens to embrace dialogue, tolerance and peaceful engagement, especially as the state continues to pursue development and democratic consolidation.
Comrade Sanyaolu also urged youths and stakeholders to remain hopeful and steadfast, stressing that resilience in the face of challenges has always been a defining attribute of Ogun people.
IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful political processes, issue-based politics and cooperation among political parties in the overall interest of Ogun State.
The council concluded by wishing all Ogun indigenes a joyful celebration and a future marked by peace, progress and shared prosperity.
