Senate Summons Finance Minister Over Collapsed Safe School Initiative

The Senate’s Ad hoc Committee investigating the collapse of the Safe School Initiative has summoned Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to appear before it on Tuesday next week.
The committee, chaired by Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, also plans to summon Ministers of Education and Defence, Tunji Alausa and Christopher Musa, as well as other stakeholders.
The committee aims to unravel issues surrounding the initiative’s implementation and ensure accountability, amid concerns over 1,680 school children kidnapped and 180 educational facilities attacked since 2014.
Kalu vowed to track funds allocated to the initiative, including $30 million mobilised between 2014 and 2021, and N144 billion recently released by the federal government.

The Ogun State Ministry of Justice hereby informs the public that it is expediting action on the prosecution of Ademola Abiodun, aka DJ Chicken, in relation to the vehicular incident of 1 November 2025.
On 1 November 2025, Mr Abiodun crashed into two motorcycles in Sagamu, Ogun State, seriously injuring a rider and a female passenger.
Mr Abiodun was unremorseful and attempted to leave the scene of the incident, which provoked an angry reaction from passersby who mobbed him.
At the time, the Ogun State Police Command initiated an investigation and review of the circumstances, prioritising the medical care, privacy, and recovery of the victims.
Yesterday, 23 November 2025, in Lekki, Lagos State, Mr Abiodun was again involved in another road crash.
This lone car incident almost harmed pedestrians, but for good fortune and the pedestrians’ quick reflexes.
Yesterday’s incident is reportedly the third road crash in two months involving Mr Abiodun at the wheel.
While it may be reasonable to allow crash victims to get compensation from persons who have driven recklessly and to resolve road traffic collisions as a civil wrong, some road users are a special danger to society and should be held to account under criminal law. Mr Abiodun is one such person.
At least two of the crashes were documented in real-time video coverage and are self-evident. Mr Abiodun’s heedless return to the wheel with no greater care just three weeks after makes it imperative that the State must intervene to protect the public – especially as there is an organic outcry against his continued driving.
Accordingly, the Attorney-General and Honourable Commissioner for Justice – Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN – has directed relevant officers to expedite action on the pending crash case from Sagamu for prompt arraignment.
The Office of the Attorney-General is working closely with the Police to achieve this outcome.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has described the attack on a church in Kwara State, where three worshipers were killed and others abducted by bandits, as dastardly and condemnable.
Speaker Abbas said the attack is not only daring but also unfortunate, charging security forces to step up their game following recent attacks on soft targets in parts of the country.
Bandits had on Tuesday attacked worshippers at a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, with three of the members confirmed killed and an unknown number kidnapped.
While stating that criminals and criminality have no place in Nigeria, Speaker Abbas said the National Assembly will continue to prioritise the security and welfare of Nigerians, which is the primary responsibility of the government.
The Speaker commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was billed to leave Nigeria on Wednesday for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and later Luanda to attend the 7th AU-EU Summit, for suspending the trip.
Speaker Abbas prayed for the safe return of the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and Kwara worshippers.

The Magistrate Court 1 of Enugu State, sitting at Enugu North local government, has arraigned two young men named Chisom Achor (22) and Chinonso Imeba (28) over allegations of conspiracy and cyberstalking involving defamatory social media posts against Federal Lawmaker Rt Hon. Chinedu Ogah.
The two-count charges brought against the defendants on Tuesday before His Worship O. S. Chukwuani, which border on conspiracy and cybercrime.
According to the charge, the duo and others now at large allegedly conspired between September and October 2025 at Obed Camp, Ngenevu, Enugu, to commit the offence of cyberstalking, contrary to Section 27 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2015 (as amended 2024).
In the second count, the prosecution alleged that Achor and Imeba intentionally published videos on Facebook and TikTok using the handles Ikwo Pluto and Pluto 777.
In the videos, they purportedly used the picture of Hon. Ogah, a member representing Ikwo /Ezza South federal constituency and claimed he killed youths from Item Amagu, collected their “talents,” caused some to go mad, and used others for ritual purposes, allegations said to have severely damaged his reputation.
The offence is contrary to section 27 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2015 (as amended 2024), punishable under Section 24(2)(a)(b) of the Cybercrime Act (as amended 2024).
The defendants did not take their plea for lack of jurisdiction of the magistrate’s court to entertain the matter.
The defence team was led by Barr. Chijioke Ugweze.
Prosecuting counsel, CSP Justice Attah (Esq.), presented the original case file, which the court admitted and ordered to be transmitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Enugu State, for legal advice.
The court subsequently remanded the defendants at the Enugu Correctional Centre, pending the DPP’s review and further directives.
