Save African Culture, Promote Inclusivity For Mutual Understanding – UNESCO

For Africa to truly experience true development, Africans must promote cultural diversity, the UNESCO Institute for Africa Culture and International Understanding has said.
The institute stressed that cultural diversity and inclusivity will shape the collective identity of Africans and promote mutual understanding among African countries.
Professor Emeritus Peter Okebukola, Directors of the institute who disclosed this at a workshop organized at the promises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Thursday noted promoting the learning of African history among the younger generation servers as a tool for promoting African cultural diversity.
Okebukola said “While addressing the theme of the workshop “Promoting Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity through UNESCO’s General History of Africa”, Professional Okebukola described the workshop as a testament to UNESCO’s commitment to preserving and promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the African continent.
“As we embark on this journey of discovery and enlightenment, it is crucial to recognize the significance of cultural diversity and inclusivity in shaping our collective identity and fostering mutual understanding among nations and peoples.
“The General History of Africa serves as a powerful tool for advancing these noble ideals by providing a comprehensive and inclusive narrative of Africa’s past.
He further stressed that the idea of promoting a holistic understanding of Africa’s past will foster a greater appreciation for the continent’s diverse cultures and traditions.
According to him, the initiatives of General History of Africa play a vital role in promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and solidarity among peoples of different backgrounds.
He said “By promoting a more nuanced and holistic understanding of Africa’s past, we strive to foster a greater appreciation for the continent’s diverse cultures and traditions.
“In today’s interconnected world, where diversity is increasingly celebrated as a source of strength and resilience, initiatives like the General History of Africa play a vital role in promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and solidarity among peoples of different backgrounds”, he added.
