Palliative: Reps Set To Squash Betta Edu, Over 1.1Trillion Cash Transfer
The Nigeria House of Representatives members have moved a motion to question the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs/ Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu, to explain to the House the steps taken for the disbursement of 1.1 trillion naira transferred to 15 million households in the country.
The motion was moved by Hon. Adewale Adebayo during Plenary proceedings of the House of Representatives for Tuesday, calling for questioning of the Minister on the process followed for the disbursement.
Recalled that the Minister had claimed that not less than 15 million households in the country have benefited from the money.
Hon. Adebayo argued that the disbursement does not seem to achieve the cushioning of the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy regime for which it was intended.
He pointed out that as representatives of the people, constituents have expressed suspicions regarding how the disbursement was handled.
Hon. Adebayo posited that there is a need to invite the minister to come before the House to clarify the modalities used for the disbursement, and it was seconded by Hon. Ahmed Shehu.
The motion was voted on, adopted, and referred to the House Committee on Constituency Outreach as well as that on Poverty Alleviation.
