The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ogun State has expressed strong opposition to the nomination fees imposed by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGISIEC) for the forthcoming local government election, describing it ‘unacceptable’ and ‘lacking in authority’
Hon. Adeyemi Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun YPP chairman criticized the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGISIEC) for imposing fees, calling on females and PWD contestants to come and participate freely under the umbrella of the YPP political party in the electoral process.
Oluwaseyifunmi emphasized that the upcoming local government elections in Ogun State will not be business as usual.
He registered displeasure over how questions raised by chairmen of various political parties regarding the election process were inadequately addressed by the OGISIEC during stakeholders’ meetings held in Abeokuta.
Hon. Oluwaseyifunmi stated that the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGISIEC) does not have the authority to impose fees for nomination forms for party candidates.
The proposed amounts—₦250,000 for chairmen, ₦150,000 for councilor positions, and ₦100,000 for female contestants—were deemed unacceptable.
Oluwaseyifunmi argued that female contestants and persons with disabilities in any of the local government areas who are willing to participate in the election not pay nomination fees under his party to promote greater participation of women and PWDs in the electoral process.
