Ogun State Dominates National Youth Games with 5 Gold, 6 Silver, 9 Bronze Medals
Team Ogun has increased its medal tally to 20 at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba 2024, with a total of 5 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
The team achieved success in various events, including shooting, gymnastics, and para-table tennis.
In gymnastics, Abdulrasaq Abolaji won the first gold medal for Team Ogun in the Floor Artistic Gymnastics event, followed by another gold in the all-around artistic gymnastics category and a bronze medal in the pommel horse event.
In shooting, Team Ogun recorded an impressive performance, winning 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. Atinuke Onabiyi won a gold medal in the Female 10m Air Rifle event, qualifying her to represent the national team at next year’s Olympics.
The team also excelled in the Mixed Rifle Event, winning 3 gold medals. Onabiyi set a new national record with a score of 502.1 and, along with Idowu Tobiloba, won another gold medal for Ogun State.
In athletics, the mixed 4×400m team won a bronze medal, while the male 100m team also won bronze medals.
However, the table tennis teams faced defeat in both the male and female doubles events.
The Para-Table Tennis team won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal for Ogun State, with Raji Aisha winning 2 silver medals in the girls’ single and girls’ mixed double events. Tobi Ogunyemi won a bronze medal in the boy’s single event.
In golf, Adams Makareem closed the medals table with a silver medal in the Strokeplay event on Monday.
