The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council will on Thursday 30th of March, 2023 inaugurate the elders’ advisory council which consists of Past Chairmen and Elders of the Pen profession who had served the union in one capacity or the other as their counsel and will be helping the union to navigate its affairs.

Chairman of the Union, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju stated this during a meeting with the elders of the union who had taken it upon themselves to ensure the legacies they left behind remain afloat.

Comrade Olanrewaju while briefing them reeled out ongoing projects since the assumption of office a few months ago which include but are not limited to the renovation of the NUJ Iwe Iroyin secretariat to further give the place a befitting facelift.

“We have been able to carry out so many projects both physical and mental projects, the physical is what we can see when we get to the secretariat while the mind has been what we have been able to do for our members financially”.

Responding to the Union request, Former Chairmen of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council Alhaji Lai Labode, Eddy Aina and Barrister Demola Badejo lauded the fresh air of progress blowing across the council and appreciated the Wale Olanrewaju-led executive for taking the bull by the horns in repositioning the council and restore it to its pride of place as the cradle of journalism in Nigeria.

“The report we have been getting from the secretariat has been encouraging which showed improvement from what it used to be, they submitted”.

They all accepted to serve in the elders’ advisory council noting that they would be physically present during the Inauguration while promising to join hands in the rebuilding process by offering useful advice

Also, Oba(Dr) Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade Akinale, a veteran journalist challenged the new executive to do all within their power in making Ogun council take its rightful place in the comity of states as Abeokuta remains the cradle of Journalism adding that the crises that engulfed the council in the past should not be a yardstick for non-performance.

Others at the meeting were Dele Akinsola also a veteran, Sina Oduntan, Comrade Idris Adelakun, the Union’s treasurer and Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the Union’s Secretary.

The Inauguration date on the 30th of March, 2023 coincided with the monthly congress of the union when members gather to discuss issues of the progress of the union.
