The Labour Party (LP) has vowed to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration in the 2027 elections, citing the government’s alleged imposition of hardship and insecurity on Nigerians.
Deputy National Chairman of the LP, Dr Ayo Olorunfemi, made the declaration at a briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State, urging Nigerian workers to join the party and help rescue the country from the APC’s “clueless” government.
Olorunfemi emphasised that workers have the constitutional right to belong to any political party and can hold executive roles, provided they resign or apply for leave of absence to contest for elective office.
The party has announced appointments, including Abayomi Arabambi as acting Vice Chairman for the Southwest, and Lamidi Apapa as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
The LP is preparing for ward, local, and state congresses, scheduled for December 2, 4, and 6, and urges widespread participation.
Olorunfemi stressed that workers should join the LP to address the hardships imposed by the APC-led government, saying, “Enough is enough.”
He also emphasised that the party is now one indivisible family, and anyone making statements to the contrary was merely creating noise that would not affect the party’s focus as the 2027 election approaches.
Olorunfemi spoke at a briefing held at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.
He explained that the opposition party is now under one umbrella led by Julius Abure and that, in the spirit of ongoing reconciliation, its former factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa, has been appointed a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
Similarly, the party’s the party has announced appointments, including Abayomi Arabambi as acting National Vice Chairman for the Southwest, and Lamidi Apapa as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
Olorunfemi said he was in the state to sensitise party members on the forthcoming ward, local, and state congresses, scheduled for December 2, 4, and 6 respectively, urging widespread participation.
He further stressed that as the party begins the journey to restrategise and strengthen itself for the 2027 election, Nigerian workers should join the opposition to address the hardships imposed by the APC-led government.
Olorunfemi said, “The constitution allows freedom of association with any political party or trade union. A recent Supreme Court judgment also affirmed that civil servants cannot be prohibited from joining political parties of their choice.
“There is no provision barring civil servants from party membership. They can even hold party positions, but to contest elective offices, they must apply for leave of absence or resign.
“We are calling on the Nigerian workforce to join the Labour Party, represent their wards, local governments, and states. They should pool their strength and wisdom to rescue the nation from the clueless APC government.
“Rather than merely striking or protesting, workers in government will be directly involved in governance, and their unions will be consulted on key national issues.
“To be free from hardship, insecurity, and falsehood, workers must join the Labour Party, which shares their ideology. They should not remain loyal to the party of their state governor if it does not prioritise their welfare. Workers must team with us to send APC packing in 2027. Enough is enough.”
On the unity of the party, Olorunfemi said, “Labour Party is now one, with no divisions. Anyone claiming otherwise has no place in the party. Such ‘market noise’ cannot distract our members.
“Those making noise were given tickets in the last election and then formed factions. Being given a party ticket does not confer a leadership position. The party alone determines its leadership.
“The Supreme Court has made it clear that courts should not entertain disputes over party leadership. Julius Abure and his team were duly elected to the NWC, and no court has invalidated the convention. That convention is sacrosanct under the law, as affirmed by the Supreme Court.”
Abayomi Arabambi, speaking at the event, thanked the party for the new appointments and pledged to work diligently to make LP the party to beat in Ogun State in 2027.
He described Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as incompetent and promised that an LP government would be transparent, responsible, and prioritise citizens’ welfare.

While in the UK, he gained admission to Bucks New University, Uxbridge, London, where he studied Mental Health Nursing. This transition reflected his growing passion for healthcare and human wellbeing.
His training in mental health nursing exposed him to the complexities of psychological care, empathy-driven practice, and professional medical ethics, preparing him for a demanding yet impactful career.
Following the completion of his studies, Olalekan Jiboku became a Psychiatric Nurse working with the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) in London. His role places him at the forefront of mental healthcare delivery.
As a psychiatric nurse, he provides professional care and emotional support to individuals facing mental health challenges, contributing meaningfully to public health and community wellbeing.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Olalekan Jiboku stood out through his frontline service and community-focused efforts. He supported vulnerable individuals during one of the most challenging periods in modern history.
Beyond his professional duties, he demonstrated compassion through humanitarian services, ensuring that the needy were not forgotten during difficult times.
Through his foundation, Youthlift Advocacy Foundation, he played an active role in feeding the needy and supporting vulnerable populations, particularly during hardship.
The foundation has served as a platform for youth advocacy, community support, and social responsibility, reflecting Olalekan Jiboku’s belief in giving back to society.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has commenced the electronic registration and re-registration of members as part of a strategic mobilisation drive to expand the party’s base, strengthen internal cohesion, and prepare the party for future political engagements.
Flagging off the exercise on Tuesday, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, described the initiative as a major opportunity for party members and supporters across the state to deepen their commitment to the APC, which he reaffirmed as the largest and most successful political party in Africa.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said the e-registration exercise would open the door for new members to proudly join the “winning party,” while also providing a credible, transparent, and technology-driven membership database.
According to him, the electronic process will eliminate manipulation and fraudulent practices, enhance accuracy, and ensure efficient data management in line with global best practices in political party organisation.
Governor Abiodun called on party leaders, stakeholders, and members at all levels to fully mobilise supporters across the state and ensure mass participation in the exercise.
“This is a collective responsibility. Our leaders, ward executives, and field officers must work together to deliver a seamless, inclusive, and hitch-free registration process. The era of fake or inflated membership figures is over,” the Governor said.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urged party faithful to see the exercise as a unifying and strengthening process rather than a personal or transactional venture.
“This registration is not about personal gain; it is about consolidating our strength as a party and positioning APC for continued leadership and electoral success,” he said.
Chief Sanusi called on party leaders across the 236 wards of the state to provide full support for the exercise and assured members that the party leadership would deploy additional registration centres and operators where necessary to accommodate all prospective members within the limited time available.
He stressed that no genuine supporter or intending member of the APC should be excluded from the process.
The flag-off ceremony also featured the electronic registration of key party leaders, including the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Toyin Taiwo, underscoring the leadership’s commitment to the exercise.
Party members and supporters are therefore encouraged to participate actively and mobilise others to do sathe me, as the APC continues to build a stronger, more inclusive, and forward-looking political family in Ogun State.
