Ogun IPAC Urges INEC to Restore Confidence in Electoral Process

The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ogun State, Comrade Sanyaolu Abayomi, has called on leaders of political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to work together to restore confidence in the electoral process.
Abayomi made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday.
According to Abayomi, the upcoming elections present an opportunity for political parties to ensure the sanctity of the ballot box and respect the mandate of the people.
He emphasized the importance of issue-based campaigns that unite the people and foster development and sustainable democracy.
Abayomi also stressed the need for political parties to adhere to internal democracy and comply with the provisions of their respective constitutions.
He noted that the failure to do so has led to crises, leadership disagreements, and litigations that have hindered the development of party politics in Nigeria.
The IPAC chairman commended the good people of Ogun State for their willingness to participate in the electoral process and urged INEC to remain neutral and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
“As Nigerians, the international community expect improved elections, and the success of the elections will rebuild trust in the electoral process, boost voter turnout, and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy”.
Responding, the AdSec of INEC Ogun State, Mrs. Temitayo Adelusi acknowledge the importance of their partnership with IPAC in promoting peaceful and democratic practices among political parties.
She emphasised her commitment to ensuring the integrity and smooth functioning of Nigeria’s electoral landscape.
Adelusi also disclosed that INEC is yet to announce a new commencement date for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
