Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Salako-Oyedele has said that women play a crucial role in driving industrial development, citing their often-undervalued economic contributions.
Speaking at the Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Women in Business Luncheon, she stressed that women’s creative initiatives must be encouraged to induce industrial growth.
Salako-Oyedele identified wage gaps and pay inequality as significant barriers to women’s economic empowerment, advocating for salary transparency and strong legal frameworks to ensure equal pay for equal work.
She also emphasized the need for stricter workplace protections to prevent harassment and discrimination.
The Deputy Governor commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for promoting economic diversification and inclusive growth, noting renewed efforts to support entrepreneurship, increase access to finance, and create an enabling business environment.
Other speakers, including Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Mrs. Hawau Usman, highlighted the importance of government support for gender-responsive policies and mentorship programs for emerging women leaders.
The representative of the First Lady of Lagos, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the need to expand access to education, healthcare, and financial inclusion to ensure no woman is left behind.
