OGSIEC Clarifies Administrative Fees

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has issued a clarification regarding the administrative charges for the upcoming 2024 Local Government Elections. According to OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, the fees are directed at political parties, not individual candidates.
During a recent radio interview in Abeokuta, Osibodu explained that the charges apply to parties fielding candidates for Chairmanship or Councillorship positions. The fee aims to encourage greater participation and commitment among political parties.
Osibodu emphasized that OGSIEC is legally empowered to impose the fee, having sought legal counsel and received approval from the State House of Assembly.
He addressed concerns raised by Hon. Itunu Abioro, Public Relations Officer of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ogun State, stating that OGSIEC has the authority to establish its electoral guidelines.
Osibodu stressed the importance of party participation, noting that non-participation is tantamount to conceding defeat. He reaffirmed OGSIEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
The commission has released the election timetable and guidelines, with further engagements with political parties and stakeholders to follow. Osibodu concluded by stating that OGSIEC’s actions are aimed at the progress of the state.
