OGISIEC Budgets 200 Million Naira For Printing of LG Candidates Ballot Sheets

Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), has said that the commission would spend not let than 200 million naira for the printing of ballot sheets of candidates in the fourth coming LG election.
This was said by the chairman of the commission Babatunde Osibodu during a media parly held in Abeokuta on Tuesday at the Press Cantre Iwe Irohin.
The Chairman blamed the enormous budget on a constant fuel price hike, saying the commission had reviewed its proposal at least six times.
He explained that the voter register cost the electoral body N15 million to print during the last council poll held in 2021, declaring it will now cost over N200 million to print the same register for the 2024 election.
Osibodu also disclosed that eight out of 19 registered political parties in the state would participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled on November 16, 2024.
He noted that no candidate was disqualified from the just concluded screening exercise by the Commission.
The OGSIEC boss stated that the agency was collaborating and engaging with newsmen for media visibility through the use of various platforms, particularly in rural communities, adding that,’’ as the fourth estate of the realm, the media serves as a beacon of hope to the people and a watch dog to both the executive and legislative arms of government’’.
While reiterating its commitment to operating an open-door policy where candidates or political parties could always lodge their concerns, he assured newsmen of adequate media logistics, to ensure elections activities were well covered in the nooks and crannies of the state.
The electoral umpires stated that the collation of ad-hoc staff for the exercise was ongoing, as applicants would be duly informed on the next line of action, saying the recruitment would be done with utmost transparency.
