
Obaship Stool:Orile Imo Kingmakers Select Mathew Alawode As Olu of Orile Imo
In a decisive action, the kingmakers of Orile Imo, which constituted Iwarefa Ogboni and Iwarefa Olorogun have elected Mr. Mathew Alawode Ayedun as the new Olu of Orile Imo elect.
The selection process was held today at the Orile Imo town hall where all stakeholders and indigenes of the town converged to elect a new Oba after six years without a monarch in the town.
Earlier before the commencement of the election, the Odofin of Imo Engr. Hakeem Adeshina stated that the township has the support of all authorities to conduct the selection process, adding that whatever the outcome may be, all indigenes of the town must support whoever wins.
Adeshina Maintained that the town has been in the process for the past six years, thanking God for the support of all authorities for the selection process, noting that all the candidates are bonafide sons of Oril-Imo town.
According to him, “I’m happy that today we are going to select the new Olu of Orile Imo, we have been in the process for about six years ago, some faults were pointed out, and we have to repeat, and we are doing again. We have hands of necessary authorities to conduct this selection process without any negative directive, we have our Baales, Olorogun, and other stakeholders in the presence.”.
“All the candidates are bonafide sons of Oril-Imo town, saying that whoever wins, is at home and whoever loses is at home too, but they must be united together for the peace and progress of Orile Imo”. He said.
Also, Chief Olusola Otesile who is the chairman committee declared that the selection process was free and fair, pointing out that the process was in line with the Oba and Chief’s Law 2021, he added that Orile Imo traditional council on August 2023 received a letter from Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo the President of Egba traditional council to ensure that a preferred candidate is selected which had been done today.
He asserted that his role in conducting the selection had been fulfilled, the next action for him is to write a report on the process to Imo Township Traditional Council and they will forward it to the appropriate quarters for the record.
In his own words, ” The process was in line with the Oba and Chief’s Law of Ogun State 2021, and Orile Imo traditional council on August 2023 received a letter from Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo the President of Egba traditional council to ensure that a preferred candidate of the people is selected.
“My role to conduct the selection has been fulfilled, the next action for me is to write a report on the process to Imo Township Traditional Council and they will forward it to the appropriate quarters for the record’.
Other members of the selection committee are Lukotun Imo Olusola Otesile, Chief Osanyintola Odunayo Lipebi of Imo, and Akanbi Shakiru Ogboye of Imo. Family presents are Lisa’s family, Isalu ilukan family, the Odofin family, the Aro family, and the Ijigun family.
In his reaction, he said, was so delighted to be elected as the new Olu of Orile-imo by the entire good people of Imo home and abroad, assuring him to deliver and do more developmental projects for the benefit of his people.
He also said he has it in his plan to invite more investors and Orile-imo sons and daughters from the diaspora to come home and do tangible things on their father’s land.
