Lagos Unity Estate Lion Club, Four Others, Distributes 700 Eyeglasses, Free Eyecare Screening In Ogun

In a joint effort by the Lion Club to bring blindness, glaucoma, and other eye challenges issues to zero level in Nigeria, the Lion Club of Lagos Unity Estate, Lagos Akowonjo, Ogun Frontier, Abeokuta Coral, and Lagos Egbeda Lions Club have jointly distributed not less than 700 eyes glasses, free eye screening, for the indigents in Ogun State.

The project with the theme: “Unity Eye Care 3.0” kick-started on Friday, at the cultural center Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, also tagged “Egba 2024 1st district 404b3 convention”.

Speaking with newsmen, the President of Lagos Unity Estate Lion Club, Lion Bolaji Abbas, disclosed that the program was jointly supported by not less than 5 Lion Clubs, which is part of the continuum activities of the Lion Club to ensure zero level of blindness.

He noted that the eyeglasses, eye drops, and screening, were free, while the beneficiaries were 700 people appreciating Ogun people for the turnout.

Abbas posited that Lion Club International is aware that the government can’t do it alone, which is why the club has come out to render support, particularly on the eye challenges issue.

He said, “We are having a project today which is called Unity Eye Care 3.0, whereby we have 5 lion clubs to achieve this, which are Lion Club of Lagos Unity Estate, Lagos Akowonjo, Ogun Frontier, Abeokuta Coral, and Lagos Egbeda Lions Club for free eye screening, free eyeglasses, and free eye drops, we have over 700 beneficiaries today and we are delighted that we made an impact”.

“We have about 8 global courses we attend in Lion Club, part of the major of one is eyesight which is exactly why we are doing this project. We are going to be having another in Lagos by next quarter and it going to be a laudable one too”.

“One of the reasons why we are in existence is that fact we are aware that the government can’t do it alone, so whatever we can do as a non-profit organization, to support Lion Club International, we will do it which is what we are doing today.”

Reacting, one of the beneficiaries of the project Mr. Abdulahi Saheed appreciated Lion Club for the project, he noted that he couldn’t get money to get glasses before, saying that he got one for free through the project of Lion Club.

Also, the Charter President of Ogun Frontier Lion Club, Bidewu Peter posited that sight is the light of the body, for don’t have sight will be so reduced in doing what should be done with ease, which Lion Club took it up as part of core project.

He submitted that the project is a huge one for the Lion Club members in Ogun state, because it is part of the core focus of the Lion Club in contributing positively to the immediate community, and Abeokuta remains his immediate community.

Meanwhile, Lion Adeola Adetayo from Lagos Akowonjo Lion Club, expressed gratitude for the project, saying that the turn-up was high.

She also expressed optimism about doing more projects to support humanity.
