Inside Ogun: Idomila Residents Groan of Deplorable Road, Begs Gov. Abidoun

Hundreds of residents of the Idomila community in Ijebu North East local government, Atan in Ogun State, have protested against the deplorable condition of the road leading to not less than 50 communities including the Army Barack in Ijebu Ode.

Residents of Idomila described the road as a death trap for residents, claiming that it has claimed the lives of many people while thousands are hospitalized due to the bad conditions of the road, particularly during the rainy seasons.

Speaking with journalists, the Chairman of the Idomila Elders Council Alhaji Kunle Sanni, explained that many people have lost their lives to the deplorable condition of the road.

The protesters were seen on Saturday holding placards with different inscriptions at the Idomila community, such as: “Gov. Abidoun Idomila Road is a death trap, help to save our souls”. “Gov. Abidoun fixed Idomila Road for us, we voted enmass in Idomila so fulfill your promise. Idomila has over 3,5000 residents this is the only road to the city, Bikemen are avoiding Idomila road”.
“Our children are getting to school late, it is difficult for Okada to enter here during rainy days, we appeal to OGDG”.

He emphasized that there are over 938 houses in the community, thereby also leading to the Army Barack of Ilese.

Sanni highlighted that the majority of the residents couldn’t go to school and not do their day-to-day activities, which hindered students’ access to school.

He added that the about 938 houses located within the community have so far been under siege of erosion, which according to him may further sink the community underground.

“We want the Governor to assist us to repair this road for us. Let them check their records, in Idomila we voted wholeheartedly for the emergence of the governor. We have 938 houses in the Idomila community, we have about a million people in this community.

“This road is a major road connecting the Army Barracks at Ilese. We lost one of our elderly people due to this bad road”, he said.

Also speaking, Mrs. Dahunsi Oderinde, a community member appealed to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun to intervene and repair the road.

She noted that the community had voted overwhelmingly for the governor’s emergence and had high hopes that he would address their long-standing request.

“The road, which connected the community to the Army Barracks of Ilese, has become a death trap, with deep pits and potholes have claimed at least one life in the community while others are being hospitalized.

” We as a community have attempted several palliatives to fill the potholes with bags and broken blocks, spending millions of naira in the process. However, the road remains in a terrible state, hindering access to the market, schools, and other essential amenities”, she added

They emphasized that the road’s repair is crucial for the well-being, economic activities, and social lives of the community.

Meanwhile, it was observed that the road construction from the market, through Dipo Dina Stadium, was halted at the residence of the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, thereby making impassable the remaining kilometers of the road leading to Idomila and other adjourning communities.
