…Admonishes young journalists to embrace developmental journalism
The Founder and publisher of Prestige Newspaper, Mr. Dada Olaonipekun has disclosed the important roles of the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjoas the major inspiration to him to write books on community, humanity development and impact.
Olaonipekun stated this during the book launching of 50 Top Role Models in Ogun, written by the Dada Olaonipekun and Moshood Adebayo held in Abeokuta the state capital on Wednesday.
In his welcome address, Olaonipekun noted that he wrote the books to challenge many of his younger colleagues to write memoirs so that the coming generation to come, so they would be able to read more about what they have down.
“To those of our younger generation, we want to implore you to write developmental stories about humanity, and society, rather than what he said he said”.
He also affirmed that everyone featured in the books was due to their contribution and good impact made in their respective field.
Olaonipekun noted the book did not talk with only indigenes, but also looked at people who are based in Ogun and they are genuinely contributing to the growth and Development of Ogun state
“The book is written to reflect humanity and community, I challenged you to write yours too, but we were also challenged by someone, that is Obasanjo, he challenged me when I was the chairman of ANA, and we went to meet him, and Obasanjo doesn’t apologize to anybody, but he did, when he came to meet us “emabinu emabinu o”.
” I challenged him Baba why are you selling books for 15, 000 how do want the poor to buy the book, he said I know you, I have an intelligent report on you. “Re kotire”.
“I saw that as a challenge, I was writing literature books then, but after this, I was in the library for three months and no idea came, but later, this is the result of “Rekotire” of that day.”
Speaking on the protest, he posited that It would be unfair to the youth not to react because of what they are going through.
He added that if they don’t have money and millions of beings sidefunded in Nigeria, they have to react.
” So, democratically it is their right to talk and it must be peaceful. So they must react.
Don’t be unfair to them, be fair to them, let them exercise their right”.
“They have learned a lesson from #Endsars at Lekki, nobody wants to die.
“They should learned a lesson from China during the kind of demonstration the President asked them to be killed because no President will be like to be like that. He submitted.
