Harvade College Holds Matriculation, Urges Students To Adhere To School Conducts

In a heartwarming event, the Harvade College of Science and Management held its first matriculation oath for verified students as they were admitted into the institution by the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu.
The matriculation oath ceremony was held on Saturday at the school’s premises, Obada, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The students were charged with the need to strictly face their studies with the utmost level of seriousness, so they don’t lose the golden opportunity of acquiring a university education.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Prof. Ogbulu, who was represented by Prof. Ogbonna the Director of the Institute for Continuing Education Abia State University admitted the students and swore the matriculation oath.
He noted that there is a standard that requires every student to meet an expected standard, adding that failure to meet the standard, the university would show them a way out of the institution.
He said ” I want to welcome you all to this first Matriculation ceremony of Harvade College of Science and Management Studies, an affiliate of Abia State University. On behalf of the University Governing Council, I warmly congratulate our matriculating students, who after rigorous academic exercise gained admission into the various programs of Harvade College of Science and Management Studies an affiliate of Abia State University, Uturu”.
“The university does not compromise standards, hence you need to work hard to keep pace with the prescribed university standards”.
“There is a standard that every student must pursue to attain, failure to meet up with the expected standard the university will show you way out of the system”.
“I, therefore, charge you to all to face your studies with the utmost level of seriousness so as not to lose this golden opportunity to acquire a university education”.
In his address, the president and founder of the institution Dr. Adebayo Oluwatosin in his goodwill message, admonished the students who accepted the offer to see it as an opportunity to better themselves.
He stated that not all students who were matriculated get convocated, he maintained that the institution takes academics so seriously, therefore, if anyone was found unserious or failed he or she would be sent away from the school.
He said, “We don’t condone unserious-minded people in this institution, we have a policy and we have been doing it, the only the your parent sent you to come and do here, particularly in Abeokuta, Ogun state is to come and read, and I want to send you to your parent also, to inform them that we don’t listen to any parent that comes to beg unnecessarily”.
“After one year of your academics and your CGPA is less than 1, we will give you advice to withdraw. And nobody will listen to you, please and please prepare yourself very well and read your book very well, and lastly be at where your parent put you to be, the country is so terrible this time around don’t go around, and I pray that in the four years when you are convocating all of you will have the joy to be here”.
Also speaking the Ogun state Commissioner of Police Mustapha Alamutu who was represented by ACP Manger Fargus told the students to desist from anyone who can lure them into cultism, or any confraternity
He posited that it has become an anthem that youth are the future of the world.
Fargus expressed worry about the way young males and females who are well brought up to become important people in society, see them joining cultism rather than taking their studies seriously.
He narrated that about four people were killed in Abeokuta last Saturday, and two were shot in Ijebu yesterday.
He said, I have just a little advice for dear children, it has become the anthem that the youth are the future of the world, and the foundation to actualize this is education, Examples are there for you to see around. Unfortunately, it has become so worrisome these days, that youth who are sent to school, instead of them to study see them joining confraternity and society that it not adding any value. From the point of security, it has become worrisome, that just last weekend about four were killed in Abeokuta, and just last night two were shot this is manning the effort that parents are putting into their children, I want to beg you as your parent spend all this money on you, that you will eschew all means of being lured into a cult group.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state coordinator of JAMB Akeem Abdul Hamid who represented the JAMB registrar Prof. Isiaq Oloyede submitted that all students must ensure that they have their admission letter from JAMB in “CAP”.
He noted that without admission from JAMB, there would be problems in the future, he congratulated the students and parents on the feat.

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has announced plans to honour distinguished alumni of the Department of Mass Communication who excelled at the just concluded 2025 Nigerian Media Merit Awards (NMMA) and the 2025 Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).
The recognition follows a briefing by the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Wasiu Tejuoso, who conveyed the achievements of the award-winning alumni to the Rector of the institution.
The alumni, who distinguished themselves in various areas of journalism practice, have once again projected Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as a leading institution in the training of media and communication professionals, thereby reinforcing its reputation for producing industry-ready graduates of national relevance.
Among the honourees is Olasunkanmi Akinlotan of The PUNCH newspaper, who emerged Aviation Industry Reporter of the Year at the NMMA 2025. His incisive reporting and in-depth analysis of Nigeria’s aviation sector have continued to set benchmarks for specialised journalism.
Also to be honoured is Dare Olawin, also of The PUNCH, who won the Chevron Nigeria Prize for Oil and Gas Reporter of the Year at the NMMA 2025. His consistency and depth in energy-sector reporting have contributed significantly to public understanding of critical oil and gas issues in Nigeria.
Similarly, Johnson Idowu of The PUNCH newspaper was recognised at the 34th Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) 2025, where he won the Lagos State Government Prize for Reporting Lagos State, in recognition of his impactful coverage of governance and development issues in the state.
From the Nigerian Tribune, Ifedayo Ogunyemi was honoured with the Buba Marwa Prize for Defence Reporter of the Year at the NMMA 2025. A former editor of the department’s training newspaper, MAPOLY Echo, Ogunyemi’s achievement reflects courage, professionalism, and accuracy in reporting sensitive defence and security matters.
Management also commended Sodiq Ojuroungbe, a Senior Investigative Journalist with BusinessDay, whose outstanding performance in 2025 earned him multiple honours. He emerged as DAME Health Reporter of the Year, won the Nigeria Media Merit Award for Newspaper Reporter of the Year, and finished as Runner-up at the CJID Health Reporter of the Year Awards, further underscoring his excellence in investigative and public-interest journalism.
Commending the awardees, the Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Arc. Dr Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso described their collective achievements as a source of immense pride to the Polytechnic. He specifically commended the Department of Mass Communication for once again producing graduates whose professional excellence has brought honour and positive visibility to the institution.
The Rector reaffirmed Management’s commitment to supporting academic departments in producing competent and ethical professionals, while urging current students to draw inspiration from these distinguished alumni who continue to fly the flag of their alma mater with honour and distinction.

The Ilugun High School Abeokuta Old Students Association (IHSAOSA) held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 45th-year award ceremony in November, calling for engagement that uplifts secondary school education and revamps the infrastructure.
The event, which brought together former students from various parts of the world, was a celebration of the school’s achievements and the association’s efforts to contribute to its development.
In his speech, the National President of IHSAOSA, Babafemi Patrick Akinlana, highlighted the association’s achievements, including registering the association with the Corporate Affairs Commission, producing a constitution, and supporting the school with gifts, books, and cash.
Akinlana also disclosed that the association had contributed to the re-roofing of a block of three classrooms damaged by a rainstorm in 2018 and had helped fix erosion problems at the school’s entrance.
The association has also organised career talks, participated in sports events, and assisted members with employment and education.
Speaking on the theme: “Sustaining the Legacy, Inspiring the Future “, a former Principal in the school, Deaconess Esther Adeyemi, admonished the Alumni Association to take charge in preparing the younger generation on the value of education.
She posited that the future belongs to those who take reasonable responsibility, emphasising the importance of the Alumni Association in the education sector.
While concluding his speech Akinlana expressed his gratitude to members for their support and cooperation, emphasising the need for continued collaboration to achieve the association’s goals and projects for the school.
Highlights of the event include the awards ceremony and ratification of executives of the association by members, as the motion was moved by Mrs Alao Mosurat of 1990 and seconded by Mrs Abosede Ajayi. Also, a cash gift to support Students in the school.
The awardees are: Mr Babafemi Patrick Akinlana with the award of Leadership Icon, Deaconess Esther Adeyemi, Best Principal so far, Alumni Ambassador ESV Tiamiyu Olaleye and others.

Mudir Markaz Calls for Justice‑Driven Leadership, Unity, Refutes Discrimination Against Tribes, Cultures and Religions

The Mudir of the Arabic and Islamic Training Centre (Markaz Agege), and Islamic scholar Shaykh Habeebulah Al‑Ilory, has called for peaceful coexistence and accountable leadership, condemning discrimination of Tribes, culture and religion among leaders.
He stated this on Sunday during a solemn Prayer and lecture in Lagos on Sunday, marking the passing of Sheikh Mah’ruf Sulaiman Al‑Karazy.
Represented by Sheikh Sulaiman As‑Saruji, Al‑Ilory reminded leaders that divine appointment carries the weight of stewardship over all citizens—Christians, Muslims, Traditionalists, rich and poor alike.
He warned that discrimination undermines nation‑building, while justice and fairness remain the bedrock of both Islamic teachings and a thriving democracy.
“We must not fight each other. Muslims must not fight Christians, and Christians must not fight Muslims or traditional worshippers. We must live together in peace,” he declared.
According to him, Nigeria can only progress when leaders treat all citizens equally and citizens also maintain good conduct.

He urged Nigerians to uphold moral values, remain law-abiding, and support efforts that promote unity across religious lines.
Speaking on the late cleric, he noted that he lived a life of peace and tolerance, qualities that should be preserved by both leaders and followers.
Chief Imam of Ado‑Odo, Alhaji Soliu Ibrahim, called for investing in education and supporting teachers and scholars to shape a brighter future.
He stressed the need to support teachers and Islamic lecturers in order to provide quality education for the younger generation.
Also speaking, the Olofin of Ado-Odo, HRM Oba Olusola Lamidi-Osolo, urged all sons and daughters of Ado-Odo to continue the good legacy of the late cleric.
He described him as a man who worked tirelessly to uplift the image of the town and promote Islam.”Whatever has a beginning will surely have an end.”
He advised leaders to always remember death and strive to do good so they may be remembered.
“Our legacy is what people say about us after we are gone,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Olu of Imasayi, Oba Luqman Olalekan Kuoye, appealed for unity nationwide, saying Nigeria needs collective cooperation at this crucial time.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to reposition the economy despite the difficulties.
“Nigeria needs patience. The President is trying to uproot the economic problems and place the nation on a stable economic track. By the time he completes his tenure, his reforms will stand strong for the future.”
He also urged the Ado-Odo community and the Islamic family to remain united in building the town of their dreams.
In an emotional tribute, Alhaji Sulaiman Waheed Alaga, elder brother of the late cleric, described him as a calm, devoted scholar who founded an Islamic school in Ado-Odo and nurtured many students.
He recalled that the deceased travelled to Saudi Arabia as far back as 1970 and was known for settling disputes among families. “I will miss him a lot,” he said.
Also, the late cleric’s son, Sofiullah Sulaiman, who has assumed leadership of the Arabic and Islamic school left by his father said he would deeply miss his father’s fatherly guidance.
He therefore urged the government to engage Islamic scholars for guidance in line with the teachings of the Qur’an. “The government should have a listening ear. They should listen to the people, because without the people, they cannot be elected to the position they are in. They should find solutions to problems, not fight the citizens,” he advised.
Dignitaries in attendance included Alhaji Yusuf, father of Mr Kamorudeen Yusuf, who serves as the Personal Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Duties.
