Gov. Abiodun vows to close down banks, petrol stations, supermarkets that reject old currencies

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared that he would not hesitate to close down banks, supermarkets, petrol stations and other business organizations that refuse to accept the old naira notes.
The governor specifically declared that he would ensure that the fullest extent of the law is visited on individuals or organizations that reject the naira notes.
Abiodun, who gave the declaration while addressing the people at his Iperu-Remo residence, said the Supreme Court of Nigeria had ruled that the old naira notes remained legal tenders until December, said it came to him as a surprise that some merchants, traders, petrol stations, supermarkets and other businesses operating in the state refused to accept the notes.
He, however, encouraged the residents of the state to report any individual, business, the corporate or financial institution that rejects the old currencies, to him personally, maintaining that he would deal decisively with such outfits according to the laws of the state.
Abiodun further asked the people to bring the old naira notes to him if banks rejected them, assuring them the money would be taken to the banks by him.
The governor in the course of the meeting put a call through to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, who affirmed that the old naira notes, submitting that the Apex Bank would comply fully with the ruling of the Supreme Court.
