…As Bosun Tijani set to launch fellowship for alma mata
The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is investing in laying 90,000km of fibre optic cables nationwide to enhance internet connectivity, Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has said.
He disclosed that the digital economy sector contributes 16-18% to Nigeria’s GDP, with plans to increase this to 21% to create more job opportunities and wealth.
Tijani noted that part of the effort to achieve is more by the government is the implementation of initiatives such as the 3mtt Technology Talent Accelerator Programme, the Buildhaton program for young people, and the Construction of innovation and tech hubs.
During a visit to his alma mater, Anglican High School, Quarry, Abeokuta, Tijani announced a scholarship programme for the top three students in the school across all levels from JSS 1-3 and SS1-2 with support funds of N100,000 and laptops.
He also adopted a block of classrooms and a science laboratory for renovation, assuring that the classroom, if completed, will be furnished with smart boards.
Tijani encouraged students to believe in their potential, regardless of background.
Speaking at Ogun Tech Community, the Minister charged the group to be a problem-solving group through technology.
Tijani emphasised the importance of technology in agriculture, advocating for its integration to improve food production, guarantee food security, create jobs, and drive down food prices in the country.
He posited that by leveraging technology, Nigeria can increase its agricultural output and reduce reliance on imported food.
