Fed. Poly Ilaro Commissions 1st Licensed Polytechnic TV In Nigeria

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro has attained another giant stride as the institution commissioned the first polytechnic television to have a commercial license for broadcasting in Nigeria, as part of efforts to propagate the cultural values and development of the host community Yewa land.

The first polytechnic television was commissioned on Wednesday at Olulonyo Hall on the school campus, where dignitaries were present to gear the great occasion, recalling that the school established its radio station about 3 years ago.

The Rector of the institution Dr. Mukail Akinde stated that the project has become pertinent to the school and the community to enhance development, while also lamenting the epileptic situation of the electricity as a major challenge for the television station.

He noted that television broadcasting needs stable and standby electricity for effective production while calling on for prompt and improved electricity.

Akinde also disclosed that there are a lot of technological machines that the school has manufactured to enhance development but the poor power supply could not make it to be used effectively.

He lamented that the school has produced a machine worth billions of naira, and also some that could be used to produce oil within a second, but the lack of electricity in the area serves as a major hindrance.

According to him, ” There a lot of things happening that if we decide to package it, that is going sell this community, we can’t sell the community without that electricity”

“I’m saying that the essence of this speech is to appeal to you, so we can have a 33kv, let me say this if we have electricity, we have a lot of equipment here, we have a lot of things to produce here, what is the essence of manufacturing equipment by electrical and electronic engineers that can’t be used for our people here, because it can’t be use without electricity. Perhaps let me also tell you we have a machine that can process kokoro, gari, and palm carnel that within a second we have produced oil, we have all that equipment here and without electricity, we can’t use them. And I know that if we have electricity we are going give prosperity to the community, we are not going to be using it alone because whatever we are doing using it is going to be a benefit to the community”.

“We can only say thank you to the federal government by developing this polytechnic, the institution is standing on about 898 hectares of land, the land doesn’t create value if we don’t use it. If we use it properly, it will bring a lot to the community and a lot of us will be happy, and we have a lot of things to gain there, so if we have electricity as I said, the students, staff, and community will benefit tremendously”

Akinde also posited that the essence of polytechnic education is to train students on the practical aspect of the course alongside the theory, noting that, this is an advantage for the students that goes to polytechnic, which university don’t have such advantages.
He lamented that despite all the resources that the polytechnic has, the lack of constant electricity is pulling it aback.

“The purpose of polytechnic is to train our students with practical and theory that is being taught”.

“It is painful that we have that worth billions of naira, and we can’t use all these equipment use because of electricity, I have the hope that within a week solution to our electricity will be solved. I’m really asking for the supply of electricity.”

“I want to thank our supporter, the equipment at the TV station was provided by TETFUND, we have spent a lot of millions of naira to put that studio there, if we didn’t deplore resources they to make it functional. I’m still emphasizing that the studio will be meaningless if we don’t have a constant supply of electricity, we will not be able to sell the community without constant electricity, so I’m here presenting myself to you as a son, that I’m asking for your support, and it is doable to connect the 33kv because the cost of diesel now is high, that is why I’m presenting my challenges to you rather than my achievement”

In the same development, the Paramount ruler of Yewa land and Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle corroborated with the Rector to see federal government intervention on the issue of poor electricity in the community, while being optimistic about the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He maintained that the federal government is trying its best to support the institution, but calling for more for the Federal Polytechnic of Ilaro, particularly on the issue of allocation.

Olugbenle posited that the federal government needed to provide enough for the institution to enable it to deliver more than the expectation, expressing confidence in the leadership of Rector Akinde that, he would utilize any resources provided for him to maintain the school judiciously.

He said,” I can say that the federal government is going to do something for us, what we need now is more support for this federal polytechnic Ilaro, we have sacrificed a lot, of support in what they are giving to institutions in terms of allocation yearly or monthly is not enough to drive what they have been invested here, that is just the truth”.

“There are so many courses that were added and so many courses are coming, being a preferred Polytechnic in Southwest, I think the government needs to look at the area and ensure that more allocation is allocated to the institution to enable to meet up with that wish government themselves kept into their hand.

“I do not doubt that the Rector will use judiciously those resources when they are deplored so they can continue to train our children so the development of this nation can be sure and secure, that means our future is secure when our children are well trained. I know all these can’t be done without the support of the federal government, all that we need is more allocation”.

Ojo (Rtd) LL.M, FCIArb, Alhaji Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, Sen. Solomon Adeola Yayi, Mr. Lukmon Musa, who is the consultant of the Poly TV, TPL, Lasisi Deputy Rector admin, Mr. M. B. Akional, Bursar, Dr. B.C Atulomah, Mrs.A. F Babatola Registrar, Dr. Babatunde Agbeyangi Chairman of Ilaro Poly TV. Others are Deans of Schools and heads of departments.
