
Cancer Awareness Campaing: Islamic Group Conducts Free Screening For Women
In commemoration of the 2023 World Cancer Awareness Campaign, the Sisters of Jannah (SOJ), Abeokuta Zone joins the rest of the world to lend their voices in the fight against the menace with the theme “Take Action: Uniting Our Voices Against Cancer”.
The event which had more than 100 women screened at Adigbe Primary HealthCare Centre, Obafemi Owode local government was done in conjunction with Ogun State Ministry of Health.
The Guest lecturer, who is also the State Health Educator from Ogun State Primary HealthCare Development Board, Alh.Abdul-Waheed Elegbede, said, “The awareness was to uncover Myths and Truths about cancer, stages, preventions, and Treatment that have contributed to the loss of lives, noting that treatment is available if detected early”.
He stressed the need for regular check-ups, be they clinical or self-examination as early detection saves lives.
Elegbede charged women to always make it a duty to check their blood pressure, and sugar level and take advantage of the ongoing HPV vaccine by the State Ministry of Health for girls between the ages of 9 – and 16 years, saying prevention is better than cure.
Highlights of the event include Breast Cancer Screening, Cervical cancer screening, Health talk, and Blood pressure.
