Ancestral Homes Under Threat: Ajilete Residents Begs For Govt. Intervention

Residents from Abule Ajilete in Ogun State are pleading with Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Police Commissioner to protect their ancestral homes from land grabbers.

The villagers claim Idowu Odeyemi and Kehinde Oloyede Odeyemi have been terrorizing them for months, destroying properties and selling their land to real estate companies.

The Baale of Ajilete, Chief Arogundade Lateef Adisa, says the villagers have lived there for over a century and have proof of ownership.

Speaking to newsmen, the Baale of Ajilete, Chief Arogundade Lateef Adisa, said that the hoodlums invaded the village, beat the residents to stupors as well, and destroyed farmlands, foundations, economic trees, and other valuables.

He noted that the duo have also brought bulldozers to the village bulldozing a large section of the village.

Adisa disclosed that Idowu and Kehinde have sold Ajilete’s ancestral homes to some Real Estate owners despite losing a bid to take over the village at the court, saying that he has it on good authorities that the Estates have concluded plans to allocate their lands to buyers tomorrow, Saturday, 9th of November, 2024.

He listed the Estates to include, Landnest Home and Property owners of Golden Acres, Mojoyin Royal Estate, Garaboj Estate and Property, and others.

The Baale of Ajilete Village urged Governor Abiodun and the Commissioner of Police to halt the moves by the perpetrators to illegally allocate Ajilete’s lands to buyers.

Adisa said that if urgent steps are not taken, the youths and residents of the village will resist the attempt to take over their lands, a situation, he said might lead to killings and the destruction of property.

” There is a great anarchy and disturbance in the entire village of Ajilete along the Federal University of Agriculture, Alabata road under Odeda local government as one Idowu Odeyemi and Kehinde Oloyede Odeyemi came with land grabbers to attack and cause mayhem in the entire village of Ajilete to take possession of the entire village land, ” he said.

” The land in question which is the ancestral home and land of the Ajilete people bequeathed to them by their forefathers and they have been on the land for more than a century. The land grabbers have done several things to take possession of the land in the past which included failed legal means.

After so many unsuccessful attempts, they have decided to use force which they have been on for the past three months terrorising the whole village. They have sold our village land to different estates which includes; Landnest home and property owners of Golden Acres, Mojoyin Royal Estate, Garaboj Estate and Property”, he stated.

Adisa stated “They have brought in a bulldozer to bulldoze and destroy a large section of the village already. In the process, they have destroyed several plantations, farmland, foundations, fences economic trees, and other valuables.

We urge Governor Dapo Abiodun, the commissioner of Police, and concerned stakeholders to prevent the illegal allocation. The call for prevention of illegal allocation of our land is borne out of the fact that the youths of the village as well estate developers might have a confrontation that could lead to loss of lives and destruction of properties if urgent are not taken”.

He said the villagers have instituted a suit at the State High Court, Abeokuta.
