2027: MATA Yayi Group Wants Yayi to Vie for Ogun Gov’s Race, Appeals to Tinubu, Abiodun, Others for Ticket

A socio-political group in Ogun, known as MATA YAYI, has called on Senator Adeola Yayi to contest for the gubernatorial seat in Ogun in 2027, appealing to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and other political leaders to allow him to serve beyond a particular senatorial district.
This comes following Yayi’s track record of urban and rural development across Ogun senatorial districts, despite being a Senator representing Ogun West.
The group, led by its convener, Hon. Mathew Adeyinka Taiwo, popularly known as MATAYAYI, disclosed that Yayi has good intentions for the people of Ogun and vowed to mobilise not less than 30,000 votes if Yayi is given the ticket, attributing this to boosting the APC’s standing and chances in Ogun.
The move was made on Thursday in Ifo Local Government, where community leaders, relevant stakeholders, political leaders, and others joined forces to call upon Senator Yayi to vie for the gubernatorial seat in Ogun.
The group, in a communique issued and signed by Hon. Chief Mathew Adeyinka Taiwo, the Sobaloju of Agbado Kingdom, Ogun State, and convened by the Mata Yayi Group, highlighted the need for Yayi to contest the Ogun State governorship in 2027.
Taiwo posited that the justification for the endorsement is embedded in Yayi’s significant achievements in infrastructure, the politics of benefits, education empowerment programs, and other initiatives across the state.

He said, “The people of Ifo local government, the men, women, young people, traditional leaders, and stakeholders, do solemnly and publicly call on our dear Ogun State son, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan YAYI, to show interest in contesting the Ogun State Governorship in 2027.”
“Over the years, and through the statecraft of successive administrations in Ogun State, development and governance have been concentrated in the ethnic area of the particular governor. This governance behaviour has undermined the integral development of Ogun State as a state of interdependent groups with a shared vision. However, since his foray into Ogun State politics, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan YAYI has demonstrated competence, capacity, and passion for inclusive governance, which is visibly and evidently seen across the entire senatorial districts in Ogun State, even though he is currently serving as senator of Ogun West, one of the three senatorial districts in Ogun State.”
“Our public call is not a mere call of rhetoric but a call with determination to deliver this mandate, hoping that he heeds our call. We have well over 30,000 registered voters with an addition of more than 10,000 newly registered, prepared and ready to vote in the 2027 election. We have also set up a committee saddled with the commitment of identifying those who have never voted and converting them to willing voters,” he posited.
“We hereby, with all respect and honor, appeal to our dear president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the national leadership of our dear party; our indefatigable leader of APC in Ogun State; our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; our political patriarch, Aremo Olusegun Osoba; all former governors of Ogun State in our dear party; and the entire government and political personalities and structure in our dear party, APC, to graciously back our public call for Sen. Adeola Olamilekan Yayi as Ogun State Governor in 2027.”
In the same development, he also called on President Bola Tinubu to enhance security architecture in the country, to prevent saboteurs from dragging Nigerian democracy into the mud.
He posited that Tinubu’s efforts are yielding results in the economy of the country, which is not giving the saboteurs joy, yet they tend to destroy his reelection bid.
“We want to categorically appeal to our great leader, sage, and political father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consider a reelection bid in 2027. Since May 29, 2023, Nigeria has won a new and positive aspiration and a new agenda, and it is no doubt now set on a path of renewed prosperity,” he said.

“This has not come without its challenges, but our dear president, Bola Tinubu, working tirelessly to solve them, must be ready to sacrifice another four years for service to Nigeria”
The group stated in a communique to buttress their points in a comprehensive overview.

APC Kickstarts Statewide E-Registration to Strengthen Party, Expand Membership

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has commenced the electronic registration and re-registration of members as part of a strategic mobilisation drive to expand the party’s base, strengthen internal cohesion, and prepare the party for future political engagements.
Flagging off the exercise on Tuesday, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, described the initiative as a major opportunity for party members and supporters across the state to deepen their commitment to the APC, which he reaffirmed as the largest and most successful political party in Africa.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said the e-registration exercise would open the door for new members to proudly join the “winning party,” while also providing a credible, transparent, and technology-driven membership database.
According to him, the electronic process will eliminate manipulation and fraudulent practices, enhance accuracy, and ensure efficient data management in line with global best practices in political party organisation.
Governor Abiodun called on party leaders, stakeholders, and members at all levels to fully mobilise supporters across the state and ensure mass participation in the exercise.
“This is a collective responsibility. Our leaders, ward executives, and field officers must work together to deliver a seamless, inclusive, and hitch-free registration process. The era of fake or inflated membership figures is over,” the Governor said.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urged party faithful to see the exercise as a unifying and strengthening process rather than a personal or transactional venture.
“This registration is not about personal gain; it is about consolidating our strength as a party and positioning APC for continued leadership and electoral success,” he said.
Chief Sanusi called on party leaders across the 236 wards of the state to provide full support for the exercise and assured members that the party leadership would deploy additional registration centres and operators where necessary to accommodate all prospective members within the limited time available.
He stressed that no genuine supporter or intending member of the APC should be excluded from the process.
The flag-off ceremony also featured the electronic registration of key party leaders, including the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Toyin Taiwo, underscoring the leadership’s commitment to the exercise.
Party members and supporters are therefore encouraged to participate actively and mobilise others to do sathe me, as the APC continues to build a stronger, more inclusive, and forward-looking political family in Ogun State.
